The Bridges Frequently Asked Questions:

● How do I know if counseling is right for me?

The answer to this question is different for every individual, depending on their needs. However, through counseling, clients can develop a better understanding of themselves and learn new ways to think, feel, and respond to the challenges of daily life. If you’re wondering whether counseling might be helpful for you, we welcome you to reach out and talk with us about your concerns.

● What can I expect during my first session?

Your first session is an opportunity for you and your counselor to get to know one another and begin discussing what brings you to counseling. Your counselor will ask you questions about your personal history including questions about yourself, your relationships, your habits and routines, why you decided to seek out counseling services and other questions. He or she will also review important information about the counseling process, including your rights as a client and the limits of confidentiality. Most importantly, your first session is a chance to begin creating a comfortable and supportive environment for your work together.

● What if I’ve never been to therapy before?

If this is your first time considering therapy, welcome. It is completely normal to feel nervous, uncertain, or even uncomfortable about getting started. You don't need to know exactly what to say or have everything figured out before your first appointment. Your counselor will help guide the conversation and work with you at a pace that feels comfortable.

● How often will we meet, and how long will counseling last?

How often and for how long you meet with your counselor varies based on your needs and treatment plan. Your counselor will discuss this with you usually within the first three sessions.

● Do you offer in-person and/or virtual sessions?

Yes, counselors at The Bridges, A Counseling Place offer sessions in-person and virtual sessions. We strongly advise that new clients conduct their first session in-person if possible.

● What does each counseling session cost?
